about

In April 2020 - when the Covid-19 pandemic hit Europe for the first time - Leipzig based composer, pianist and sound designer Philipp Rumsch and his twelve-piece ensemble had the finger on the pulse when they released their concept album 'µ: of anxiety x discernment'. Being recorded partly with the use of a special binaural recording technique to create a three-dimensional soundstage the album was praised by Electronic Sound, BBC, NDR and many more. Furthermore, the release assured the band's recognition being one of the most exciting large ensembles in Europe.

Roughly two years later the rework EP 'µ: of transfiguration x resonance' is finally seeing the light of the day. Four artists / collectives contemplating on the album's material from different points of view by deconstructing the core material and putting it together in new ways. The prestigious lineup consists of musicians and sound artists from the ensembles's creative environment. Jana Irmert (collaborations with, i.a., Jóhann Jóhannsson), Shramm aka Jörg Wähner (Apparat, Bodo Bill, Dieter Meier and many more), Moritz Fasbender (the most recent project of musician Friederike Bernhardt) and the string trio Toechter (Lisa Marie Vogel, Katrine Grarup Elbo and Marie-Claire Schlameus) each contributed one track.

With 'µ: of transfiguration x resonance' all artists involved managed the balancing act to create a homogeneous release that is in no way inferior to the album - despite the most different aesthetic and conceptual approaches. The four tracks oscillating between sound art and chamber music, between floating ambient structures and concrete beats, between remix and recomposition. However, what all pieces have in common is their reflection about the Afterwards - the transformation, the attenuation and the newly emerging - all growing from the past. The EP is both closing the ensemble's 'µ' cycle but is also anticipating new things to come.

'µ: of transfiguration x resonance' is released on May 27, 2022 digital only and marks the first release on Philipp Rumsch's new own label / production-platform nynode intermedia. The artwork was again created by Berlin based gestalter Andi Rueckel. The EP was mastered by Philipp Rumsch himself at Valgeir Sigurðssons renowned Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavík.
